KMC has won a total of 15 awards for excellence in its paper and online publications since 2006. The latest came from two documents that won a total of four prestigious awards in the 2011-2012 publications competition of the Society for Technical Communication (STC).

The Society for Technical Communication (STC) is a professional organization dedicated to advancing the arts and sciences of technical communication. It is the largest organization of its type in the world. Its members include various kinds of writers, editors, illustrators, designers, developers, and translators—anyone whose work makes technical information available to those who need it.

The Green Building and Controls Glossary (SB-046) is a pocket-sized glossary that lists over 1,100 definitions and cross-references relating to the HVAC and building industry. It also includes over 110 building controls acronyms and abbreviations in a separate list. The latest version (Rev. D) features QR (Quick Response) codes for smart phones that link topics to more information on the web. The Glossary won a Distinguished award in Grand Rapids from the West Michigan Shores chapter of STC. It went on to STC’s international level and won a Merit award at the international Summit held in Chicago in late May. (Rev. B of this Glossary won two previous awards in the STC 2009-2010 and APEX 2009 publications competitions.)

The Native BACnet Building Automation Solutions Brochure (SB-008) is a lavishly illustrated, eight-page brochure that provides an introduction to the BACnet communications protocol for building automation systems, a description of the advantages of KMC’s BACnet products (vs. those of competitors), and an overview of KMC BACnet products and their possible installations in a variety of building and network sizes. Rev. A of this brochure won an Excellence award in Chicago from the Chicago chapter of STC. It also went on to STC’s international level and won another Excellence award.
